Practical Smart Home Email · Last updated September 18, 2026

Practical Smart Home Email is a personal app used by a single person to connect their own Home Assistant installation to their own Gmail account. This policy explains how the app handles Google user data.

What data the app accesses

With the owner's permission, the app accesses email in the owner's own Gmail account. It does not access anyone else's account.

How the data is used

The data is used only to run the owner's home automations, for example to detect a delivery notice and show a notification. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.

How the data is stored

The sign-in token that lets Home Assistant reach Gmail is stored inside the owner's own Home Assistant system, on hardware the owner controls. The app has no server of its own and keeps no copy of the data anywhere else.

How the data is shared

Google user data is not sold, shared with, or transferred to any third party. The app's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Revoking access and deleting data

The owner can remove the app's access to Gmail at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Deleting the integration from Home Assistant removes the stored token.
